What is ROSE in FNAB

Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB)

What is ROSE?

ROSE stands for Rapid On-Site Evaluation, a crucial step in FNA cytology where the sample is immediately assessed at the bedside.
Two advantages:

Adequacy

With ROSE, if there is sufficient tissue on the first pass, there is no need for a repeat biopsy. Without ROSE, typically three passes are made.

Provisional Diagnosis

ROSE enables us to take additional samples immediately. E.g., if TB is suspected, a second sample is taken immediately for culture and PCR. If the provisional diagnosis is cancer a core biopsy is taken to categorize the cancer.

Why Choose Austpath?

At Austpath, we take a multidisciplinary approach to diagnostics.

We review previous ultrasound images, perform the ultrasound, perform the ultrasound guided fine needle biopsy, conduct ROSE, process the specimen, and generate the report – all under one roof.

One-stop-shop approach increases diagnostic accuracy and Dr Edward Chandraratnam handles the entire diagnostic process from start to finish.
