THYROGLOBULIN ASSAY ON NEEDLE RINSE

The measurement of thyroglobulin in Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy specimens from lymph nodes in patients with history of papillary thyroid carcinoma has been shown to increase the accuracy of detecting recurrent disease. At Austpath we routinely washout the needle used for these lymph node biopsies with normal saline and this is tested for thyroglobulin.
